In the wake of the Burmese Cyclone, First Lady Laura Bush held a press conference to politicize the disaster with lecturing the Burma Dictatorship.
I agree that the governance of Burma is criminal. That is not in dispute. But it takes sanctimonious gall for First Lady Laura Bush to politicize the Burmese disaster.
Burma is not existing in a vacuum and the U.S. and other nations have relatively imposed sanctions, even to the latest freeze by the Bush Administration of Burma Sate assets held in U.S. banks.
The issue however is when will Political Economy in it's realized sense mature in that objectivity of what is vital and necessary for the human beings who suffer it's yoke? It's easy to typically tout the formality of elections and referendums, as means and method, an orderly progression when the relentlessness of the imperialistic forces which sustain the brutal extremes of Third World Political-Economy needs it veneer.
The lives and condition of the Burmese victims and all the other global victims are not charity for gall and hypocrisy to manipulate in that service of ego-placation.
